Well, we’re still in Morgan City. We didn’t get underway yesterday as we had hoped, but it’s for a very good reason: some of the last supplies we will need for our sampling operations in the Gulf still haven’t arrived. As you can see, getting a research expedition going can be unpredictable at times, but it’s important that everything is just right.
Instead of sailing, the crew and science team used our extra time in-port to take care of last-minute preparations. Some of the team took a trip into Wal-Mart and the hardware store to pick up supplies. We also constructed some extruders and racks in our lab. We were even able to conduct some demonstrations on the multi-corer—the machine we will be using to collect our sediment samples.
All in all, the team was able to stay busy and get things done today, but we are eager to get on our way! Right now, it’s looking like tomorrow will be the day!
Stay tuned. Hopefully we’ll have an update from the Gulf of Mexico (!!!) for you tomorrow.
