As you might expect, being at sea, surrounded by nothing but water day after day, away from family and friends can be a little…monotonous. However, people who have been going to sea anticipate this and come up with creative ways to maintain morale. Some ships have game nights, some have theme movie nights and other special events. On the Pisces, the tradition is to have a Sunday evening barbecue.
A different department (Deck, Engineering, Scientists, etc.) takes a turn at the grill each week. This week, it was the Officers, along with the Survey Technician and the Electronics Technician. They set up the grill on the back deck, and cooked up a spread while the stewards supplied the side dishes, including baked beans and macaroni and cheese. For dessert, we enjoyed ENS Kelly Schill’s homemade blueberry pie.
Judging from the comments overheard, it’s a safe bet that the officers will be allowed to cook again!
Coming up, we’ll introduce you to the chief scientist of our expedition.
